What began as a small collective has evolved into an expansive Academy with multiple enriching experiences and educational opportunities for children from the greater Portland area.
Mt Hood Center Academy emerged in 2018 as a small, home-school collective. Prior to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the idea of developing a larger education program was a distant notion. At the start of 2020, Aaron Shelley, our Director of Operations, along with the property owner, turned the unfortunate onset of the pandemic into an possibility for a unique and enriching educational opportunity for local families seeking an alternative to online schooling. What emerged is a K-8 program that provides expansive curriculums of experiential and collaborative educational methods. Alongside with Farm-to-Table, Spanish, Art, and Equine programs, MHCA provides primary education based on Oregon state standards. At MHC Academy, our unique combination of academics and enrichments provides students with a distinctive learning experience. Beginning in kindergarten and continuing through middle school, students are engaged in an integrated curriculum that combines SEAM (Science, Engineering, Equine, Agriculture, Art and Math) with a primary education based on Oregon state standards. We also incorporate additional enrichments that provide diverse opportunities for students to learn experientially as well as through instruction. Our mission is to inspire our students to be positive stewards of their community by taking an active role in their own learning. We share a goal to provide an inclusive and engaging learning environment for all potential students.
